Best Tennis Shoes for Wide Feet (2026)
Tennis shoes are built to stop you sliding off them, and on a wide foot that is the problem: a stiff, narrow court shoe holds the forefoot tighter than almost anything else you own. We ranked the 45 tennis shoes an independent lab has measured by the room they leave at the big toe, so you can see which ones actually fit a wide forefoot before you pay for them.

On this page
We have not bench-tested these shoes. There is no Podiatrist Tested score or seal on this page. Every measurement comes from RunRepeat’s lab, which measures each shoe’s toe box the same way, read from its published reviews on 15 October 2026. The interpretation and clinical advice are mine. How we test.
The short answer
- The roomiest tennis shoe measured is the New Balance FuelCell 996 v6, at 74.3 mm at the big toe against a 69.2 mm average for the 45. New Balance’s four measured court shoes average 72.1 mm, the most of any brand with more than one model tested.
- Also roomy: the adidas SoleMatch Control 2 (73.0 mm), adidas GameCourt 2.0 (72.9 mm) and Wilson Rush Pro Ace (72.7 mm).
- Court shoes run narrow as a category. The average tennis shoe here is 2.5 mm narrower at the big toe than the average hiking boot the same lab measured. The roomiest tennis shoe would not make the top ten hiking boots.
- A shoe wide at the ball can still pinch the toes. The ASICS Gel-Resolution X is one of the widest tennis shoes across the ball (96.9 mm) and one of the narrowest at the big toe (66.6 mm).
Why a narrow court shoe hurts
Tennis and pickleball are sports of sudden stops and side-to-side lunges. Every hard stop throws the foot against the inside of the shoe, and a court shoe is built with a stiff upper and reinforced sidewalls precisely so the foot does not roll over the edge. On a normal foot that is support. On a wide foot it is a vice. In clinic, the pattern is the same: a painful bunion or tailor’s bunion after a weekend tournament, black toenails, and numbness between the toes from a forefoot squeezed for two hours.
That is why the number that matters is the room at the big toe, and why this page ranks by it. A width letter only describes the ball of the foot.

By brand: who makes the roomiest court shoes
Brand averages only mean something with a few models, so this table includes brands with at least two measured shoes:
| Brand | Models measured | Average at the big toe | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Balance | 4 | 72.1 mm | 70.7–74.3 mm |
| adidas | 10 | 69.8 mm | 66.2–73.0 mm |
| Mizuno | 4 | 69.0 mm | 67.5–71.0 mm |
| K-Swiss | 3 | 68.8 mm | 67.1–71.3 mm |
| Babolat | 2 | 68.8 mm | 68.4–69.1 mm |
| Nike | 8 | 68.6 mm | 65.5–70.3 mm |
| ASICS | 12 | 68.1 mm | 66.2–70.1 mm |
New Balance is the clear outlier: all four of its measured court shoes sit in the top twelve. ASICS, the brand with the most shoes measured, averages the narrowest. That does not make every ASICS wrong for a wide foot, but it does mean you should not assume a Gel-Resolution or Solution Speed fits because it fits your friend.
The picks
New Balance FuelCell 996 v6
The roomiest of the 45 at the big toe, 5.1 mm above the average, and wider than average across the ball too (95.1 mm). The toe box is on the low side (24.1 mm), so if you have hammer toes, try it on before you commit. There is also a clay version, which measured 72.0 mm.

adidas SoleMatch Control 2
The roomiest adidas at 73.0 mm, and among the widest across the ball (96.3 mm). A good choice for a foot that is wide all over rather than only at the toes.

Wilson Rush Pro Ace
72.7 mm at the big toe with one of the taller toe boxes measured (27.6 mm), which suits toes that need height as well as width.

For pickleball
Most of these shoes are sold for pickleball as well as tennis, and the same rule applies: pick by the room at the toes, not the label on the box. Our pickleball shoe guide covers the rest of what a pickleball shoe needs.
The eight narrowest at the big toe
| Model | At the big toe | Widest point |
|---|---|---|
| Nike GP Challenge Pro | 65.5 mm | 92.0 mm |
| ASICS Court FF 3 | 66.2 mm | 92.2 mm |
| adidas CourtJam Control 3 | 66.2 mm | 87.4 mm |
| ASICS Solution Speed FF 3 | 66.3 mm | 92.3 mm |
| ASICS Gel-Resolution X | 66.6 mm | 96.9 mm |
| ASICS Gel-Resolution 9 | 66.6 mm | 93.8 mm |
| K-Swiss Ultrashot 3 | 67.1 mm | 90.2 mm |
| Mizuno Wave Enforce Tour 2 | 67.5 mm | 91.9 mm |
Several of these are popular, well-reviewed shoes. If one of them is on your list and you have a wide forefoot, try it on with your game socks before buying, and look at the widest-point figure: the Gel-Resolution X and Gel-Resolution 9 are wider than average across the ball but among the narrowest at the toes.
Fitting a court shoe to a wide foot
- Buy a wide before you buy bigger. If the model you want comes in a wide, a wide in your true size beats a half size up, which lets your foot slide forward on every stop.
- Fit late in the day, in your playing socks. Feet swell during play, and thicker tennis socks take up room.
- Test the stop. In the store, take a few quick side steps and a hard stop. If your little toe or big toe joint presses on the upper, it will be worse in the third set.
- Re-lace the forefoot. Skipping the first eyelet or two takes pressure off the widest part of the foot while keeping the heel locked.
- Leave the thick insert out unless you need it. A bulky arch support takes up toe-box height; if you wear orthotics, bring them to the fitting.
When a roomier shoe is not the answer
- Heel pain on the court is usually plantar fasciitis; see tennis shoes for plantar fasciitis.
- A bump at the base of the little toe that stays sore is a tailor’s bunion; see shoes for a tailor’s bunion.
- Burning or numbness between the toes may be a neuroma; see shoes for Morton’s neuroma.
- A big toe joint that is stiff and sore after lunging may be turf toe or early arthritis; see shoes for turf toe.
Questions patients ask
What tennis shoes have the widest toe box?
Of the 45 tennis shoes measured by the lab, the New Balance FuelCell 996 v6 (74.3 mm at the big toe), adidas SoleMatch Control 2 (73.0 mm), adidas GameCourt 2.0 (72.9 mm) and Wilson Rush Pro Ace (72.7 mm).
Are ASICS tennis shoes good for wide feet?
On average they are the narrowest at the big toe of the brands measured (68.1 mm across 12 models), though the Gel-Game 9 and Gel-Challenger 15 are close to the average. Try before you buy, and look for a wide version of the model.
Are tennis shoes narrower than running shoes?
As a category, court shoes are built narrow and stiff for lateral support. In the same lab’s measurements the average tennis shoe is 2.5 mm narrower at the big toe than the average hiking boot.
Should I size up in tennis shoes for wide feet?
No, not to gain width. A longer shoe lets your foot slide forward on every stop, which bruises toenails. Choose a roomier model or a wide in your true size.
Can I use these for pickleball?
Yes. Pickleball is played on the same courts with the same lateral movements, and most of these shoes are sold for both. See our pickleball guide.
