Every figure below is attributed to whoever published it — Skechers, a retailer, or an independent lab — and the point of the page is what happens when you put those three sets of figures next to each other. The Aero Burst is Skechers’ attempt at a serious running shoe: 42 mm of dual-density foam at the heel, a carbon-infused plate in the forefoot, a Goodyear rubber outsole, and a $155 price that puts it alongside the Bondi and the Glycerin rather than the walking shoes Skechers is known for. It also carries an APMA Seal of Acceptance and the phrase “podiatrist-certified arch support” on the box. That combination is exactly why it is worth reading the spec sheet closely — and when you do, the three organisations publishing numbers for this shoe do not agree with each other, and the disagreement lands in the one place that changes how the shoe feels underfoot.
What Skechers says it is
Skechers positions the Aero Burst as a highly cushioned daily running trainer — not a walking shoe, not a recovery shoe. The construction backs that up: a dual-density HYPER BURST ICE midsole with a firmer outer carrier and a softer core, a carbon-infused H-plate in the forefoot, the brand’s HYPER ARC rocker geometry, and a Goodyear Performance rubber outsole. The insole is the familiar Arch Fit unit, and Skechers states it is removable.
Two things on the marketing deserve to be read precisely rather than dismissed. The first is the APMA Seal of Acceptance, which Skechers states has been granted to this design. The second is “podiatrist-certified arch support, developed with 20 years of data and 120,000 unweighted foot scans”. Both are real. Neither is a measurement of this shoe, and neither is what the rest of this page is about.

Three sources, three sets of numbers
This is the part worth your attention. Skechers publishes one set of figures. Running Warehouse, a specialist retailer, lists a different set. RunRepeat, which cuts shoes in half and measures the halves, publishes a third. Here they are together.

The heel claim holds. The forefoot claim does not. RunRepeat’s caliper puts the heel within 0.3 mm of what Skechers publishes — that is a good result, and worth saying plainly. The forefoot comes in 3.1 mm under Skechers’ own figure and 4.1 mm under the retailer’s. Because drop is simply heel minus forefoot, the entire discrepancy lands there: a shoe sold as a 6 mm trainer measured out at 8.8 mm.
Whether that matters depends on why you were buying a low-drop shoe. If the answer is “it looked like a nice shoe”, 2.8 mm is noise. If the answer is that a clinician told you to come down in drop, or that you were deliberately loading the calf and Achilles more, then you are not getting the shoe you selected — you are getting something close to a conventional trainer. That is a reasonable shoe to run in. It is just not the one on the label.
Figures attributed to RunRepeat are RunRepeat’s laboratory measurements of a single pair, not ours. We have not verified them, and a single pair is a single pair. Read this section as three independent parties disagreeing, which is itself the finding — not as a settled number.
What the APMA Seal does and does not cover
It would be easy, and wrong, to read the section above as “the seal failed”. The APMA Seal of Acceptance is a review of a product dossier submitted by the manufacturer, assessed for whether the product is likely to promote good foot health. It is not a dimensional audit. Nothing in the programme promises that a published forefoot stack has been checked with a caliper, and nobody should have expected it to.
That is precisely the gap this site exists to fill, and it is worth being honest about the difference rather than scoring points. An accepted product and a measured product are two different claims. A seal tells you a panel read the paperwork; a caliper tells you what is under your foot. How the Podiatrist Tested seal differs from the APMA Seal of Acceptance.
Skechers has not done anything unusual here. Published stack heights across the industry are design-target figures taken from a spec drawing, often before tooling changes, and brands very rarely re-measure a production pair. The Aero Burst is unusual only in that somebody independent bothered to check.
What the spec sheet suggests — and what only a test can answer
The removable insole is the clinically useful feature, and it is not the one being marketed. Skechers sells the Arch Fit insole as the reason to buy the shoe. For a patient carrying a custom orthotic, the fact that it lifts out is worth more than the shape that comes in it — a fixed arch profile developed from a scan population is, by construction, not your foot. RunRepeat records that insole at 6.2 mm thick, which is a reasonable amount of volume to recover when you swap in a device, though whether the shoe has enough depth to accept a bulky posted orthotic is a question a caliper answers and a spec sheet does not.
The forefoot plate cuts both ways. A carbon-infused plate stiffens the forefoot, which reduces how far the first metatarsophalangeal joint has to bend at toe-off. In a stiff, painful big toe joint that is often the whole point, and it is why rockered, plated shoes get suggested for hallux rigidus and for some forefoot pain. The same stiffness is unwelcome if you want a shoe that bends with you, and a plate plus a rocker plus 40 mm of soft foam is a lot of shoe to control if your ankle is unstable.
Weight is the honest weakness. At a measured 322 g in the standard version — and 337 g claimed for the Slip-ins version before anyone weighs it — this is a heavy shoe by 2026 standards. Weight matters most to the people most likely to be attracted by the cushioning: someone returning to activity, someone deconditioned, someone standing all day. That trade is worth making consciously.
Nobody publishes an internal width. RunRepeat measured the toe box at 70.7 mm at its widest point and Doctors of Running described it as “not remarkably wide”. Both are useful signals and neither is a measurement of the space at your fifth metatarsal head, which is where a bunion or a tailor’s bunion actually complains. That is the number we take, and we have not taken it here.
Two versions, and only one of them comes in a wide
This is the practical fact most likely to be missed, so it gets its own heading. Skechers sells the Aero Burst in two builds:
Aero Burst, style 246210, $155 — conventional lace-up, 10.9 oz / 309 g, Medium width only.
Slip-ins: Aero Burst, style 246215, $165 — the hands-free build with the Heel Pillow collar, 11.9 oz / 337 g, Medium and Wide.
So if you need a wide, the only Aero Burst that exists for you is the heavier, more expensive, hands-free one. That is an odd place for a brand to put its wide sizing, and it is the kind of thing you discover after the box arrives. The Slip-ins mechanism itself is genuinely useful for anyone who cannot reach their own foot — after forefoot surgery, late in pregnancy, with an arthritic spine, with a body habitus that makes bending hard — but the reinforced collar that makes hands-free entry work also makes the heel harder to modify, which matters if you have ever needed a heel lift or a Haglund’s accommodation.
On the published figures: who this is worth trying, and who should wait
Reasoning from figures other people published. Not a recommendation, and not a substitute for being fitted.
- You want a maximal shoe you can put your own orthotic into. The insole is removable and 6.2 mm of it comes out.
- Your big toe joint is stiff or sore at push-off. A forefoot plate under a rocker is the standard mechanical answer.
- You cannot easily reach your feet. The Slip-ins build exists, and it is the one that comes in a wide.
- You wash your shoes. Machine washable is rarer than it should be, and it matters in a household with a diabetic foot.
- You chose it because it is a 6 mm shoe. An independent lab measured 8.8 mm. That was the reason you picked it.
- You need width in the standard lace-up. It does not exist; only the Slip-ins build offers a wide.
- Your ankle is unstable or you have fallen. Soft foam, high stack and a rocker is a demanding combination.
- You are reading the APMA Seal as proof it suits your foot. It is a dossier review, not a fitting.
Where to buy
Amazon listings are colourway-specific and these point at one common colourway of each build; confirm the style number on the listing itself before ordering. Skechers also sells both builds directly, and the brand’s own listing is the only place the style number is unambiguous. Questions we are asked about this shoe
Do podiatrists recommend Skechers Aero Burst?
Not yet, in any meaningful sense — it is too new and too few people have run in it. Skechers as a brand does get suggested in clinic, and the reasons transfer to this shoe: the insole lifts out so an orthotic can go in, the shoes are washable, and the Slip-ins builds solve a real problem for people who cannot reach their feet. What does not transfer is the price. At $155 the Aero Burst competes with shoes whose published dimensions are checked more often, and an independent lab has already found its forefoot stack 3 mm under the published figure. If a clinician sent you looking for a specific drop, verify it rather than trusting the box. Podiatrist Tested has not worn or measured this pair, so it carries no score and no seal from us.
Is the Skechers Aero Burst good for plantar fasciitis?
The ingredients people usually want for a painful heel are here: a high stack, a rocker that reduces how hard the foot has to work at push-off, and a removable insole so a device with a proper heel cup can replace the stock one. What nobody publishes is the thing that decides it — how much the heel counter resists being squeezed, and how much the shoe twists. A soft, high shoe with a weak heel counter can make plantar fascia pain worse rather than better, and the only way to know which this is, is to squeeze and twist a real pair. We have not.
Does the Aero Burst come in wide widths?
Only in one of its two builds. Skechers lists the standard lace-up Aero Burst (style 246210) in Medium only, and the Slip-ins: Aero Burst (style 246215) in Medium and Wide. If you need the extra width you are buying the hands-free version, which is $10 more and about an ounce heavier by Skechers’ own figures. No extra-wide is offered in either.
Will an orthotic fit in the Aero Burst?
Probably, and the removable Arch Fit insole is the reason — RunRepeat measured it at 6.2 mm, so there is real volume to recover when you take it out. “Probably” is as far as a spec sheet goes. Depth in the heel and midfoot, and whether the shoe’s own arch shape fights your device rather than sitting under it, are things we rate with an Orthotic Volume Rating from a physical pair. This shoe does not have one yet.
Is the drop really 6 mm?
Skechers publishes 6 mm and Running Warehouse lists 6 mm. RunRepeat cut a pair in half and measured 41.7 mm at the heel and 32.9 mm at the forefoot, which is a drop of 8.8 mm. Their heel figure agrees with Skechers to within 0.3 mm; the disagreement is entirely in the forefoot. We have not measured a pair ourselves and are reporting the disagreement, not settling it — but if drop is why you are buying this shoe, that is a 2.8 mm question worth asking before you spend $155.
What happens next
This page exists so there is an honest, clearly labelled entry for the Aero Burst rather than a fabricated review of a shoe nobody here has worn. When a pair is bought at retail, it gets weighed at men’s US 10, the heel and forefoot stack get measured with calipers, the internal toe box gets measured for width and depth, the heel counter gets squeezed and the shoe gets twisted, an Orthotic Volume Rating is assigned, and it goes on the road for logged miles. Then this page is replaced by the full review, with a score, and either a seal or a public statement of which criterion it failed.
The forefoot discrepancy above is first on the list to check. If our caliper agrees with the lab, that is worth publishing loudly.
