We have not had this shoe under our own caliper. Of the stability trainers in this batch, the Kayano’s published figures survive independent measurement best — every dimension lands within 1.4 mm. The interesting question here is not the numbers but what ASICS has done to replace the old medial post.

What a foot and ankle surgeon reads into these numbers
The Kayano is the other shoe patients arrive already wearing when they have been told they overpronate. ASICS has moved away from the hard medial post of the older Kayanos toward what it calls a 4D Guidance System — a wider base and graduated midsole geometry that resists collapse without a distinct wedge under the arch.
Clinically that is usually the better design. A hard post concentrates pressure under the navicular and is a common source of complaint in people with a rigid midfoot or an accessory navicular. Geometry-based guidance spreads the same job across the whole platform.
At 39.9 mm heel and 30.6 mm forefoot the Kayano is also more cushioned than the Adrenaline, and softer at 41.3 against 44.1 Asker C. If you need stability but found the Adrenaline harsh, this is the obvious next thing to try on.
Orthotic fit
The insole is removable, and a geometry-based guidance system generally coexists better with a custom device than a hard medial post. What decides the question is internal volume and heel-counter depth once the stock insole is out — which is exactly what our Orthotic Volume Rating measures and exactly what a specification cannot tell you. This shoe has no OVR yet. If you wear a custom device and you are choosing today, buy from somewhere with a returns policy and try the device in the shoe.
Who should be cautious with the Gel-Kayano 32
- Anyone with a rigid high-arched (cavus) foot. Stability geometry resists inward roll, which a supinating foot does not need. Based on the published design, not on wear.
- Anyone who needs a narrow men’s width. ASICS lists men’s in Medium, Wide and X-Wide only — no narrow. A slim foot may swim in it regardless of the support features.
- Anyone buying it purely on price. At $165 it is the most expensive shoe in this batch, and the Adrenaline at $140 does a similar job by a different mechanism.
