The GT-2000 is ASICS’s mid-priced stability shoe, the one that sits under the Kayano and gets recommended when a patient needs guidance but not a fortress. The 15 launched in August 2026, lighter and with more foam. Here is what ASICS publishes, what it does not, and what a foot and ankle surgeon reads into the numbers.
What ASICS says the GT-2000 15 is
ASICS calls the GT-2000 15 a stability shoe that “brings fun back to stability running”, built on FF BLAST MAX foam with PureGEL and its 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM — “premium stability technology that uses advanced geometry to guide the foot forward from landing through toe-off” in ASICS’s words. ASICS’s launch blog says the 15 is lighter than the 14, adds 2 mm of a softer FF BLAST MAX formulation, and moves to an engineered-woven upper. List price is $150.

What the spec sheet suggests — and what only a test can answer
ASICS moved the GT-2000 from a post to geometry, and the 15 leans further into cushioning. The 3D Guidance System is ASICS’s name for shaping the midsole — a wider base, a firmer lateral wall, a scooped heel — so the foot is steered rather than braced. Combined with a softer FF BLAST MAX foam and a retailer-reported 40 mm heel, this is now a soft, tall “guidance” shoe rather than the firm stability trainer older patients remember. For mild-to-moderate overpronation that reads well. For a rigid flat foot it may be too soft, and that is exactly what a torsional test shows.
8.9 oz is light for a stability shoe. ASICS’s published weight puts it under the Arahi 8 and well under the 860v15. Light plus tall plus soft is a combination we watch: it is comfortable, and it usually means less torsional rigidity than a heavier, plated shoe.
8 mm drop, and the geometry is where our patients tend to do well. Heel-pain and Achilles patients generally tolerate 8 mm with a tall heel; forefoot-pain patients will care more about the 32 mm forefoot figure, which is retailer-sourced.
What only the test can answer: ASICS publishes neither stack nor a women’s weight, and it has not listed the 15 on its own APMA page. Widths come from Fleet Feet. Toe-box dimensions, heel-counter stiffness, orthotic volume and how the softer foam holds up are all bench questions.
Who this shoe is probably for
Read from the published specification, not from wear. Treat these as hypotheses the test will confirm or overturn.
- Mild-to-moderate overpronators who want a soft, light guidance shoe.
- Heel-pain and Achilles patients comfortable at 8 mm drop.
- Wide feet — 2E and 4E are listed by Fleet Feet.
- Rigid flat feet or posterior tibial tendon problems — geometry-only guidance in soft foam may be too little; wait for the rigidity score.
- You liked the firmer, posted GT-2000s of years past — this is a different shoe.
- You run custom orthotics — insole removability and volume are unpublished.
What changed from the previous version
ASICS’s own launch blog (August 1, 2026) says the GT-2000 15 is lighter than the 14, adds 2 mm of a softer FF BLAST MAX formulation for more cushioning, and moves to an engineered-woven upper. The 8 mm drop is unchanged. Those are ASICS’s claims; the weight and the extra 2 mm are the ones a scale and a caliper can check.
