We have not had this shoe under our own caliper. The figure worth knowing before you buy is the drop: Brooks states 12 mm and an independent lab measured 13.5 mm, which puts the Adrenaline among the highest-drop mainstream trainers still on sale. For the foot this shoe is aimed at, that is a feature.

The number to pay attention to. A measured 13.5 mm drop. Most current trainers sit between 5 and 10 mm, so the Adrenaline is deliberately old-school geometry, and the measured figure is 1.5 mm higher than the published one. If you have been sent to a “stability shoe” for heel pain, this geometry is a large part of why it helps.

What a foot and ankle surgeon reads into these numbers

The Adrenaline is the shoe most often handed to someone told they overpronate. What Brooks actually builds is a firmer midsole (44.1 Asker C, the firmest in this batch), a reinforced heel counter, and GuideRails — raised foam walls either side of the heel that limit how far the rearfoot can roll rather than propping the arch up from underneath.

That distinction matters. A medial post pushes up under the arch and can be uncomfortable over a rigid or already-supported foot. A guidance system that works at the heel tends to be better tolerated alongside a custom orthotic, because the two are not fighting for the same space. It is one reason this family is a common recommendation for posterior tibial tendon dysfunction and adult-acquired flatfoot.

The 13.5 mm drop is doing quiet work too: the higher the heel sits relative to the forefoot, the less the Achilles and plantar fascia are asked to lengthen at push-off.

Orthotic fit

Brooks states the insole is removable, and a heel-based guidance system generally coexists better with a custom device than an aggressive medial post does. What decides the question is internal volume and heel-counter depth once the stock insole is out — which is exactly what our Orthotic Volume Rating measures and exactly what a specification cannot tell you. This shoe has no OVR yet. If you wear a custom device and you are choosing today, buy from somewhere with a returns policy and try the device in the shoe.

Who should be cautious with the Adrenaline GTS 24

  • Anyone with a rigid high-arched (cavus) foot. This shoe is built to resist inward roll. A foot that already rolls outward does not need that resistance and will often find it harsh. Based on the published design, not on wear.
  • Anyone with forefoot pain. A 25.5 mm measured forefoot under a 13.5 mm drop puts comparatively more load on the ball of the foot. Based on the published geometry, not on wear.
  • Anyone wanting a soft, cushioned ride. At 44.1 Asker C this is the firmest shoe in this batch. Firmness is the mechanism here, but it is not what everyone wants underfoot.

What we cannot tell you until we test it

Everything that makes this site different is missing from this page, and deliberately so. We have not had this pair under our own caliper. We cannot give you our internal toe-box width or depth, we cannot tell you whether a custom orthotic seats without heel slip, and we cannot score comfort from a spec sheet. Those numbers come off a bench, on a pair we own. When they do, this page becomes a scored review and is relabelled.

Drop is the figure that decides how load splits between your heel and your forefoot, so it is the fastest way to tell these apart. Where a figure was independently measured rather than taken from the brand, it says so — and on several of these the two disagree.
